Mount Abu: history
Mount Abu is the only hill station in Rajasthan. It sits on a high plateau in the Aravalli range at about 1,200 metres, so it stays cooler than the plains around it.
It has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries. The Dilwara Jain temples were built between the 11th and 13th centuries. In the 1800s the British leased the hill from the ruler of Sirohi and used it as a summer retreat.
