Park City, Utah

Park City: history

Silver was found here in 1868, and Park City became a mining boomtown. A great fire destroyed Main Street in 1898, and it was rebuilt within a couple of years. By the 1950s the mines had closed and the town was almost empty.

The first ski lifts opened in 1963 and brought it back to life. Events of the 2002 Winter Olympics were held here, and the Games return to Utah in 2034. For more than forty years the town was the home of the Sundance Film Festival.
