Ladakh: history
Ladakh was an independent kingdom on the trade routes between Tibet, Kashmir and Central Asia. The Namgyal kings built the palace at Leh in the 17th century. The region came under Dogra rule in the 1830s and became a union territory of India in 2019.
Leh is at about 3,500 metres, so every tour starts with a day or two of rest. Travellers on a foreign passport, including OCI card holders, need a Protected Area Permit for Nubra and Pangong. We arrange it.
