Branson: history

Branson is named after Reuben Branson, who opened a store and post office here in 1882. A novel of 1907, 'The Shepherd of the Hills', made the Ozark hills famous and brought the first visitors.

Silver Dollar City opened in 1960 above Marvel Cave, and the first music shows began at about the same time. Table Rock Dam created the lake in 1958. Today the town has dozens of theatres.
